Dear Members
Earlier this year we asked you to complete an email survey administered by “players first”, an independent company working in association with England Golf. This survey was done at no cost to the club and is being used in many golf clubs across the country. We issued the survey to all playing and non playing members and are now in receipt of the results. We had a 62% return rate on the survey and would like to say a thank you to all those who took the time to help the management team get a better picture of your satisfaction across the range of topics. We will use the results to inform our plans for the coming months and years as we seek to further improve our offer to you as members.
A summary of the results is shown in the tables below along with some of the initial responses regarding improvements . You will see that on the tables we have compared our score against the previous survey in 2020 to assess progress. We have also added a comparison with other golf clubs in the North in order to get a feel for how we are performing in relation to other golf clubs locally. We hope that the information presented is clear and indicates the areas for development and action. Should there be any further questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact us via Jeff and Norma in the office.
Can we take this opportunity to thank you for your support in 2022 and going forward into 2023. Like many sports clubs and small businesses it is becoming increasingly challenging to manage our resources and meet all demands, but we are confident that we have a firm foundation to help us manage and improve the course and club generally in the coming months.
Best wishes to you and your families for the festive period and a happy new year.
Thanks the Management team
The results in this area are generally very pleasing. We have changed the structure in the office this year and will continue to endeavour to make office hours accessible to the membership. We will look to improve our regular communications and inform members about developments in the clubs. We have recently reviewed membership categories and will look at this again when we issue annual subscriptions.
The winter programme of work which was sent out a couple of months ago is in step with the results shown in the survey. We are seeking to improve the course in all areas and are looking to procure new equipment to support this. Our Director of Course Steve Cram is working closely with the green keeping team to deliver improvements with the key priority areas being tee boxes , greens and bunkers. We are planning to have a greens forum in the new year so that the team can explain the work programme and hear views from members.
We are limited by space at the club when it comes to practice facilities but recognise that what we do have needs improvements. We plan to place warm up nets at the East end of the clubhouse and we are also looking to drain the area on the practice ground next to the 18th tee so that this can be brought back into use next year.
Results are pleasing but we are looking to continue to improve the decor and facilities.
The team are very pleased with the results relating to food and beverage which reflect the level of service we enjoy in this clubhouse. We will continue to discuss hours of opening with Russell and his team and seek to enhance the offer to members going forward.
It’s good to see that members feel the club is friendly. That said we do need to encourage greater use of the bar and catering to support the financial viability of the club and to enhance the social aspects of club life. The management team are looking to run events in the new year which will hopefully improve in this area. The Competitions & Handicaps committee will look at the area relating to variety of competitions to see if this can be enlarged.
As a team we are all working closely with Nicky to offer the best service we possibly can from the shop with a wide range of good products and services. Nicky is limited by space in the shop and always seeks to stock items that are affordable and offer good quality.
Nicky will price match against major retailers and is happy to discuss this with members when they are seeking to buy clothing and equipment as he does have access through his suppliers to a wide range of items.
The lack of good practice facilities does hinder the opportunities for Nicky around lessons and teaching. He does however, offer lesson packages to cater for all golfing needs and has a state of the art Trackman 4 in the swing studio. This is widely recognised as the best launch monitor on the market in terms of club face and golf ball data. Nicky is keen to offer lessons to members so please pop in and see him to discuss anything you require and he will tailor something to help you improve your game.

Russell and his team do an excellent job for us and long may it continue. I bring good friends to dine and they are so impressed with the food and cost of same. Some of these people belong to prestigious golf clubs but my friends applaud the food and service - far superior to their facility.
I feel very strongly that we need to give Russell his extended kitchen - the sooner the better. This may well be in hand, if not, get a move on - we cannot afford to lose him. We have spent a significant amount of money in other areas, we can no longer continue to say “we can’t afford it”.

I fully agree with Muriel, Russell is central to the club house atmosphere and should be supported in every way possible.
